Two news reports titled “HC summons 3 factory officials over baby birth in toilet” and “What happened to Hamida Akhter on Saturday” were published on May 11 and May 12, respectively.
We regret that these reports included wrong facts.
Contrary to the first report, the worker concerned never applied for maternity leave nor did she inform anyone she was pregnant.
The specific claim in the second report, that a supervisor was seen coming out of the factory gate with a shoe box and that he showed locals the box with the 5-month old foetus inside, is completely erroneous.
Journalistic oversight and lack of proper verification of facts resulted in our publication of these incorrect facts, and we express our deepest regrets to Ms Akhter and Apex Footwear Ltd.
