Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on unregistered motorbikes from plying on roads from June 3.
IGP Shahidul Hoque made the announcement in a press conference held at police headquarters in the capital on Sunday morning.
He said: “Fifteen days will be given to complete the registration process. The drivers will have to show the money receipt if the registration process is not completed within the given time.”
“Law enforcers will seize the unregistered motorbikes if they are seen plying on the roads, and cases will be filed under the vehicle act,” added the IGP.
The government is losing a large amount of revenue from the unregistered motorcycles plying across the country.
With nameplates, “On Test” or “Applied for Registration (AFR)” attached to their bikes, the bikers are seen travelling on the streets for years without any intention of getting their vehicles registered.
