Bangladesh wants to play a special role in the two new development banks - China-led AIIB and BRICS-operated NDB, said a high official.
“We want to make sure that Bangladesh play a special role in the AIIB and the NDB (New Development Bank),” said AK Abdul Momen, Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the United Nations yesterday.
He was addressing a press conference at the Finance Division auditorium on the occasion of a high-level “South-South and Triangular Cooperation” meeting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the two-day meeting at the Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka today.
Bangladesh has already joined the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a founding member.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith also spoke on the occasion and Economic Relations Division Senior Secretary Mohammed Mejbahuddin atttended.
Muhith said the country’s poverty rate will drop to 11% in next four years, which is currently 24%.
