A clash ensued between supporters of two contractors over work order at Gazipur City Corporation yesterday. During the clash, supporters of both groups vandalised several rooms and ransacked documents of the city corporation.
Councillor Azizur Rahman Shishir told the Dhaka Tribune that two contractors – Shahjahan Mia, convenor of district unit Schchasebok League, and Kamruzamman Ripon, district unit general secretary of Bangabandu Sanskritik Kote – were locked into an altercation over the work order of two zones under Gazipur City Corporations. Being informed, Ali Hossain, brother of Ripon who is also a leader of the ruling party, with their supporters rushed to the spot and assaulted contractor Shahjahan.
As the news of Shahjahan’s assault spread, supporters of him rushed to the spot and both the groups were locked into a clash. During the clash, several rooms, including Executive Engineer Akbar Hossain’s room, were vandalised. Eight people, including the two contractors, were injured in the clash. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
