Boycotting hockey clubs counting on Joy intervention

Update : 13 May 2015, 07:12 PM

There is finally some light at the end of the tunnel as far as the country’s hockey arena is concerned. And it is Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Arif Khan Joy, who has come forward to resolve the ongoing dispute among the clubs.

Mohammedan Sporting, Mariner Youngs, Bangladesh Sporting and Wari Club did not take part in the previous edition of the premier league and the trio have continued their previous stance to boycott all kinds of hockey activities under the existing committee. Recently, Wanderers also joined the three clubs in boycotting the domestic hockey circuit.

Joy, however, following a meeting with the Bangladesh Hockey Federation officials and representatives of the four boycotting clubs, informed yesterday that he is hopeful over a solution.

“We will hold a closed-door meeting in the coming days with the presence of four-five senior personalities. Hopefully, we will get a solution from this,” said Joy.

Mariner Youngs general secretary Hasan Ullah Khan Rana though confirmed yesterday that their status quo still remained the same.

“We remained at our previous stance. If they (BHF) do not form an ad-hoc committee we will not take part in the inter-club players’ transfer,” said Rana.

BHF general secretary Khaja Rahmatullah on the other hand said, “The ball is in the Deputy Minister’s court. We will accept whatever the ministry decides in the end. We also want every club to take part in the league.”
