Bangladeshi film selected at Cannes

Update : 12 May 2015, 06:30 PM

Bangladeshi filmmaker Khijir Hayat Khan’s short film has been selected at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, and will debut today. The 18-minute fictional short titled Eye for an Eye will be screened at the festival’s Short Film Corner section, while the film is entered to the festival as the submission from Canada.

Director Khijir said, “9/11 happened when I was in Canada in 2001, and we observed that this event turned perceptions about Muslims upside down. People started to give uncomfortable looks to Muslims everywhere. Even an Iranian scientist was killed during that time. These incidents influenced me greatly. Then we decided to do something on the people’s psychological pressure in situations like these.”

Written by Karin Maxey, the character-driven action short casts Shaan Rahman and Momona Komagata in leads.
