5 held with 70kg cannabis in B'baria

Members of Rapid Action Battalion have detained five drug peddlers with 70kg of cannabis from Shatborgo area under Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria.

The detainees are Ripon, 27, son of late Abdul Hamid of Kandipara area, Tofael Ahmed, 28, son of Mashuk Mia, Kalu Mia, 45, son of late Rafiq Mia of Chochartola village, Nazrul Islam, 28, son of late Fazlu Mia and Jalal Mia, 38, son of late Ibrahim of Shohagpur village.

Acting on a tip off, RAB personnel detained the drug paddlers while they were exchanging packets of cannabis with another group in a microbus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway early Monday.

The law enforcers also seized the private car and the microbus, said a press relase issued by RAB 14 Bhoirab Camp.

RAB 14 Bhoirab Camp Squad Commander ASP Abu Sayeed said: “We recovered six packets of cannabis weighing 70kg from the microbus.”

He said case will be filed against the detainees in this regard.
