Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a huge amount of contraband, including drugs worth Tk60.77 crore and 12 firearms, during several operations throughout the country last month.
Illegal goods worth more than Tk45.65 crore were confiscated as they were traded within the country while goods worth more than Tk15.12 crore were seized while they were being smuggled, said a press release issued by the BGB.
The seized materials include bottles of Phensidyl, 5,34,904 pieces of Yaba tablets, 995kg cannabis, 12,48,304 pieces of various medicines and supplies of local and foreign liquor.
The BGB also recovered 12 firearms including 8 pistols, two guns, two revolvers, six magazines and 34 rounds of bullets.
In April, the BGB handed over 229 criminals involved in smuggling to police and filed some 2,652 cases related to those crimes.
The press release also said the BGB had rescued 60 women and children from being trafficked.
