Lightning kills 5 in 3 districts

Five people have been killed when lightning struck them in three districts – Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Meherpur on Sunday, reports BSS.

Police and local sources said the lightning followed by rain and storm hit two persons around 9am when they were in a field at Manikpur village under South Surma upazila in Sylhet district. Both of them died on the spot.

The deceased were Ali Hossain, 24, son of Abul Hossain and a ten year old boy of the same village.

In another incident, thunderbolt struck farmer Abdul Ali, 48, at Rajapur village under Srimangol upazila in Moulvibazar district at about 8am, leaving him dead on the spot, said Abdul Motaleb, local UP chairman.

Besides, two people including a woman lost their lives being hit by thunderbolt Sunday morning in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district, police source said.

The deceased were Atiar Rahman, 54, son of late Ismail Hossain of Chargoal village and Bilkis Khatun, 28, wife of Liton Hossain of Kajipur village of the same upazila.
