The students of Jahangirnagar University have blockaded the Dhaka-Aricha highway, protesting the assault on a teacher of the university's journalism department by a traffic police officer.
The students put up a barricade on the highway in front of the university's main gate at around 12:45pm Sunday.
Highway police station OC Sanowar Hossain said: “The protesters vandalised six vehicles, including one of Savar Cantonment in the afternoon.”
He said they have also set fire to vehicle tyres.
Journalism Department teacher Rafiqul Ahmed was assaulted by a traffic police officer near the Uttara bus stand area in the capital on Saturday evening.
