President Abdul Hamid has congratulated Tulip Siddiq, granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Rupa Huq and Rushanara Ali on their wins in the British parliament elections.
"The president said their victory in the British parliament elections has brightened the image of British-Bangladeshis," president's press secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.
Abdul Hamid wished them success in discharging their responsibility as Members of Parliament in Britain.
Tulip Siddiq, also the niece of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and daughter of Sheikh Rehana, ousted the Conservatives by securing 23,977 votes. She won from the Hampstead and Kilburn Parliamentary constituency.
Rupa Huq secured 22,002 votes while Angie Bray, who was contesting the election from the Conservative party, got 21,728 votes.
Rushanara Ali secured 32,387 votes while the nearest candidate Matthew Smith of Conservative got 8,070.
A major British newspaper termed Tulip Siddiq as one of the rising stars in politics.
