Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul has been suspended as a district court accepted a charge sheet against him in several cases, including the police constable Siddhartha Sarker murder case.
The Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry issued a notification regarding the suspension on Thursday afternoon.
Additional Secretary KM Mozammel Haque of LGRD Ministry told the Dhaka Tribune that Bulbul was suspended from his mayoral post as per section 12 (1) of the City Corporation Act.
According to Section 12 (1) of the City Corporation Act: If charge sheet is accepted against any City Corporations mayor and councilor, the government may suspend him in consultation with the Election Commission.
Earlier, the government suspended Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury over the same charge.
Bulbul took charge of the mayor's office on September 18, 2013.
