PM: No mercy for arsonists

Update : 07 May 2015, 09:47 AM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure stern punishment to the arsonists by bringing them to book.

The premier made the statement while delivering her introductory speech at the meeting with senior officials of the Home Ministry and other organisations under the ministry at the secretariat on Thursday morning, BSS reported.

She said there should be no mercy for those who kill people by burning them.

"There is no bigger crime against humanity than burning people to death. Those who unleashed such crimes will have to be brought to book. They can not get any mercy," she said.

She said there are two challenges before the government – one is terrorism and the other is militancy.

In this connection, the prime minister asked the law enforcers to nip militancy in the bud so that it never emerges in the country.

Coming down heavily again on the BNP-Jamaat nexus for unleashing atrocities in the name of a movement, Sheikh Hasina said she has never seen such type of movement.
