30 more migrant graves found in Thailand

Update : 07 May 2015, 08:35 AM

Thai police have found 30 new graves at an unused Muslim burial ground inside an abandoned detention camp for illegal migrants in the Hat Yai district of Songkhla.

Villagers said the 30 new graves had been there for about a year, reports the Bankok Post.

They also told the police that it had been unused for nearly 40 years, and there had previously been only six old graves.

The 30 graves are yet to be opened for examination, police said.

Officials said the graves were similar to the 26 graves found at a detention camp in a forest in the Padang Besar sub-district of Songkhla's Sadao district last week.

Earlier on Wednesday, dozens of southern police officers were transferred for the sake of the investigation into human trafficking in the region.
