Novera Ahmed, one of the collaborators of Central Shaheed Minar’s original design, died yesterday in a hospital in Paris. She was 85.
Born in Kolkata in 1930, Novera Ahmed is considered one of the first modern sculptors of Bangladesh.
She was awarded a diploma from Camberwell School of Art in London in 1955.
Novera Ahmed collaborated with Hamidur Rahman and was credited with the original design of the Central Shaheed Minar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of the sculptor, saying it is a great loss for the whole nation.
