The High Court yesterday granted an ad-interim bail to BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy in a case filed for planning subversive acts last December.
The court issued a rule asking the government to explain why he should not be granted regular bail in the case.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman granted the bail until the rule is disposed of.
He, however, cannot be released from jail following the HC order as he is shown arrested in two other criminal cases, said his lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury
Police filed the case with Turag Police Station on December 26, 2014, under the Special Powers Act, 1974. He was arrested on the same day.
The bail petition was filed last month.
