A Shibir activist of Jagannath University (JnU) has been beaten by some agitated students for sharing a status on Facebook containing seditious remarks.
The attack took place in front of the new building of the university around 3:30pm Monday.
Shamim Rifat Raju, a student of the sixth batch of Computer Science and Engineering of the university, received treatment at National Medical College Hospital.
Raju shared the status of a Kawsar Arif, who also claimed to be a Shibir activist, which reads: “To be straight forward, I support Pakistan before any other country in all formats of sports as I do not believe in the independence of Bangladesh.”
Dr Nur Muhammad, acting proctor of JnU, said: “We are looking into the matter and legal action will be taken if we find such seditious remarks. But beating someone is not a solution.”
However, Shamim could not be contacted for his comment in this connection.
