Two alleged robbers have been killed in a gunfight with detective police in the Bhutgari area under Pachbibi upazila in Joypurhat.
The deceased are Moinul Hossain Babu, 36, of Puranapoil area under Pachbibi upazila and Abdus Salam, 25, of Jagannathpur village under Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur.
Joypurhat Police Superintendent Mollah Nazrul Islam said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of district detective police conducted a drive in the area on early Sunday.”
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them.
In retaliation, police fired back, leaving two of the robbers dead and another wounded by bullets.
Two police constables – Bojlur Rahman and Selim – were also injured during the gunfight, he said.
Meanwhile, police also recovered a gun and a foreign pistol from the spot.
The injured policemen and the robber have been admitted to Joypurhat District Hospital, the official added.
