Eyewitnesses said several hundred AL men of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute area, led by AL leader Mehedi and Mohiuddin and equipped with firearms, sticks, rods and other weapons, tried to attack the house of local Jubo league leader Elias around 1:30pm.

Elias’s followers also came together and chased the attackers, said Bayezid Police Station Officer-in-Charge Babul Chandra Banik.

He said on information, police rushed to the spot, took position in the middle and fired at least 20 shotgun rounds. The attackers also opened fire and shot at least 15 bullets leaving three police and 10 locals injured.
