Dhaka air most polluted Monday

Copenhagen and Dublin were recorded as cities with the cleanest air

Dhaka ranked first in air pollution worldwide on Monday.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) of US-based air monitoring organization Air Visual, Dhaka held the top position globally at around 8:50am.

With a score of 281, the capital of Bangladesh topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities. Lahore of Pakistan ranked second with a score of 267, while Delhi, the capital of India, ranked third.

The list was followed by Kolkata; Yangon of Myanmar; Dubai of the United Arab Emirates; and Kabul of Afghanistan.

At the same time, Copenhagen of Denmark and Dublin were recorded as the cities with the cleanest air in the world. The air quality score in Copenhagen was six.

The clean air list was followed by Vancouver of Canada; Seattle and Detroit of the United States; and Dublin of Ireland.

According to the AQI scale, an index between 0 and 50 is considered good; 51 to 100 moderate; 101 to 150 cautionary; 151 to 200 unhealthy; 201 to 300 very unhealthy; and above 301 hazardous.

AQI data shows that around seven million people die worldwide every year due to air pollution-related problems.
