Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has called upon BFIDC to develop eco-friendly products using betel nut leaves, bamboo and canes as alternatives to single-use plastics.

She said this in a meeting with Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) officials at the Bangladesh secretariat on Sunday, according to a press release.

Rizwana stressed the need for importing high-quality rubber tree clones to increase production. "The government has taken initiatives to supply affordable, sustainable, and modern-designed furniture," she said.

"BFIDC, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is being modernized to implement the initiative. To modernize the BFIDC, its limitations should be identified first," she said.

"All furniture designs and plans of the corporation are being revised to allow customers to order furniture in their preferred designs," she added.

Secretary of the ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed, BFIDC chairman Md Nasir Uddin and senior officials were also present at the event.
