Accessing the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) arranged a training program from Sunday to Tuesday in Dhaka.
The training inauguration took place on Sunday morning.
A total of 64 potential participants have joined this training program including key stakeholders from Bangladesh’s public and private sectors.
The program featured Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary of the Climate Change Wing, MoEFCC, as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Dr Rana Bahadur Thapa, Deputy Director of Nepal's Alternative Energy Promotion Centre; Dr Ahsan Uddin Ahmed, Climate Change Expert; and Dr M Feisal Rahman, GCA Country Manager.
The speakers highlighted that the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) of Bangladesh has identified a financing requirement of $230 billion for the period 2023-2050 to address the impacts of climate change, with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) being a key potential source of funding.
To address this need, GCA is committed to enhancing the adaptation and resilience of Bangladesh by implementing phased training programs aimed at building institutional capacity for developing concept notes and funding proposals for the GCF.
The goal of GCA's training on Adaptation Finance is to create sustainable capacity among Access Entities, Executing Entities, and Adaptation Experts, enabling them to design more effective adaptation concept notes and funding proposals for the GCF.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to develop sustainable technical capacity within Bangladesh’s climate finance ecosystem, which is essential for mobilizing the necessary financial resources for climate adaptation projects.
