A five-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the Sylhet Bazar area of Kamrangirchar in the capital on Wednesday.
Victim Jannati was the daughter of day labourer Md Mostofa. The family hails from Rambabagh village in Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj and currently lives in Kamrangirchar.
The accident occurred around 3pm while the child was playing on the road in Sylhet Bazar No-7 area, according to family members.
Jannati’s aunt, Nargis Akhter, said a speeding battery-run auto-rickshaw hit the child, leaving her critically injured.
She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious condition around 4:45pm, where the on-duty doctor at the Emergency Department declared her dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
