New BGB chief takes charge

Major General Abul Hossain has become the new Director General (DG) of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) after succeeding the outgoing Major General Aziz Ahmed on Wednesday. The Public Administration Ministry issued a gadget notification in this regard on November 2. Abul previously served as military secretary to President Md Abdul Hamid. Born on March 15, 1962, Abul Hossain joined Bangladesh Military Academy in 1980 and was commissioned in December 1981 in the Corps of Engineers of the Bangladesh Army. He went on to serve the Army Headquarters as the chief engineer and was also the commandant at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) and Bangladesh Ordnance Factory. Abul Hossain, the former chief engineer of Dhaka City Corporation, also served in different Engineers Battalions including commanding 17 Engineers Construction Battalion and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion in Kuwait. He achieved a BSc in civil engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and later obtained a masters degrees in business administration and defence studies.
