The minister told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday morning. Malaysia will take Bangladeshi manpower in plantation, manufacturing and construction sectors. In 2012, the Malaysian government had resumed taking in Bangladeshi manpower after four years of restriction. Around that time about 10,000 aspirants were able to go to Malaysia. Later, on February 18 this year, the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam and Human Resources Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Richard Riot Anak Jaem inked a deal to send 1.5 million workers to Malaysia under Government to Government Plus mechanism. But the very next day, Malaysia suspended recruitment of all foreign workers, including those from Bangladesh. Around 300,000 Bangladeshis are estimated to be working in Malaysia and another 1 million is believed to be staying there illegally. According to government figures, expatriate Bangladeshis in Malaysia remitted around $1.4 billion last fiscal year.
