Bangladeshi man jailed for illegal stay in India dies in hospital

A Bangladeshi national, who was arrested in 2016 for illegal migration in India, has died at a hospital in Mumbai. 55-year-old Mohammad Noorbani Sirajulkhan died at J J Hospital on August 16, The Indian Express said in a report published on Monday. He was a resident of the Noakhali district. According to the report, Noorbani was arrested in July last year for staying in India without a valid passport or visa. Wishing anonymity, a police official said that the Bangladeshi national was convicted last year and sentenced to one-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000. Noorbani suffered from paralysis during his jail term and was admitted to J J Hospital on July 21 where he later died. The police official said Noorbani’s jail term ended on July 27 and was supposed to be deported to Bangladesh but he could not be moved out of the hospital due to his health complications. He added saying an accidental death case was filed regarding the matter and they were trying to contact the deceased’s family.
