Signal 2 at sea ports as cyclone Kyant approaches

Met official Omar Faruk said Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been notified to hoist the signal on Tuesday afternoon. “However it is not certain whether the cyclone will intensify or not as currently it has positioned itself very far from the coast,” he added. Met office bulletin said Kyant was centred about 595km south of Chittagong port, 510km south of Cox’s Bazar port, 645km South-southeast of Mongla port and 575km south-southeast of Payra port. All fishing boats and trawlers over north-bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice. Update: Bangladesh Meteorological Department posted an update at 7pm on Tuesday that the warning signal No 2 was to be maintained.
