Ride-sharing app Uber has announced a new set of community guidelines for both riders and drivers in Dhaka.
The guidelines explain the behaviour expected from riders and drivers when using Uber and how drivers and riders can lose access to the service, the company said in a press release on Thursday.
The guidelines advises five practices to adopt: respect each other, give riders and drivers some personal space, not let children use Uber unsupervised, put safety first and provide feedback to improve service.
The community guidelines were also released on the Uber website in both English and Bangla.
Uber has faced various difficulties since its launching in Dhaka, including an allegation of assault by a driver. The app has introduced several changes in response.
The guidelines describe some of the specific kinds of behaviour that may cause someone to lose access to Uber as a rider or driver. These are: damaging drivers’ or other passengers’ property, physical contact with the driver or fellow riders, as in touching or flirting, hitting or otherwise hurting a driver or a fellow passenger, use of inappropriate and abusive language or gestures, for example, asking overly personal questions, threats, aggressive, sexual, discriminatory or disrespectful comments or gestures, unwanted contact with the driver or fellow passenger after the trip is over. Breaking the local law while using Uber.
“Most important of all, remember that when you use Uber you will meet people who may look different or think differently from you. Please respect those differences. We want everyone to feel welcome when they use Uber,” the release said.
