Rana surrendered before the court of First Additional District Sessions Judge Abul Monsur Mia on Sunday morning and sought bail.
The court issued arrest warrants for 10 people, including the Tangail 3 MP and three of his brothers, for the murder of local Awami League leader and freedom fighter Faruk. It also ordered confiscation of their properties.
Faruk was found murdered in front of his house in the town's College Para area on January 18, 2013. His wife Nahar Ahmmed filed a murder case with local police.
In August 2014, police arrested two cohorts of MP Rana who gave confessional statement before a court.
Rana is the only accused who has turned himself in to face charges of murder. The others are on the run.
Police pressed charges against 14 men in court on February 3. On April 6, a court accepted charges against 10 men and issued a warrant for their arrest.
In May, police raided residences of the accused but said they found nothing to confiscate. The MP reportedly went to Parliament in June and signed the attendance book, before bolting out.
Of Rana's three brothers, Sahidur Rahman Khan Mukti is a former mayor of Tangail municipality, Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon is a leader of an organisation Tangail businessmen, and Saniyat Khan Bappa is a former vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling party student front.
The other accused are Kabir Hossain, Darowan Babu, Alamgir Hossain Chane, Nasir Uddin Noor, Sanowar Hossain and Masudur Rahman.Read More* Fugitive MP Rana appears in parliament* Nothing to confiscate at MP Rana’s residence?* SC paves way for Tangail MP Rana’s arrest
