Update : 14 Sep 2016, 04:57 PM
A worker, injured in the deadly Tampaco factory fire, has succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll in the incident to 34. Dhanmondi police's Officer-in-Charge Abdul Latif confirmed the death of Monowar Hossain, 40. “He died at the capital's Northern Medical College at 11pm on Tuesday,” Latif told the Dhaka Tribune. A massive fire swept through food and cigarette packaging factory of Tampaco Foils Limited on Saturday in Tongi following a huge explosion. Twenty-four workers died on that day. An injured worker died the next day at hospital and four charred bodies were retrieved from the site the next day. On Monday, rescuers recovered four more bodies. Tampaco Chairman Syed Mokbul Hussain, a former MP, has been accused in a case filed by one of the victim's family on Monday. Two investigation committees are looking into the industrial disaster, Bangladesh's worst since the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse which killed more than 1,100 people. Only a few months before that in November 2012, a devastating fire at a garment factory had left over 100 workers dead. The International Labour Orgazination in a statement on Monday said the Tampaco highlighted that much more has to be done to ensure workplace safety.
