Assistant Executive Engineer of Railway Eastern Zone Abdul Hanif said: “Engine of a gangkar train from Parbatipur railway junction veered off the tracks following a collision with a Parbatipur railway junction-bound deep train (Line) from Chirirbandar station at the area yesterday around 2.30pm, halting the train service on the route.”
Being informed about the incident a relief train rushed in and started the recovery operation and the recovery efforts are still in under way when this report was filed.
“A three-member probe committee has been formed in this connection,” the engineer said.
At least five people including two guards of the trains injured in this incident. Injured people were taken to local hospitals.
