Any political affiliations officers may have had during their student years must not influence their professional conduct, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at an introductory meeting with newly appointed officers of the 45th BCS (Police) and BCS (Ansar) cadres at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
Congratulating the newly appointed officers, the minister said their foremost responsibility was to uphold law and order and ensure an environment conducive to the smooth conduct of national activities.
He said the administration, development, overall security of society and public peace of mind largely depended on their performance.
The minister instructed the officers to maintain discipline, follow service rules and comply with the lawful orders of their senior officers throughout their careers.
He said the police and Ansar services differed significantly from other cadres, as their members worked in highly challenging and often confrontational environments. Officers were required to make decisions instantly, making intelligence, professionalism and presence of mind essential.
He urged the young officers to exercise utmost caution and prudence in enforcing the law, warning them against abusing their power under any circumstances. He also stressed the need to uphold the reputation of the police force.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 80 officers were recommended for the BCS (Police) cadre and 25 for the BCS (Ansar) cadre in the 45th BCS examination.
Following a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration, 65 officers joined the police cadre and 19 joined the Ansar cadre at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday.
