A pharmacist was injured after an expelled Jubo Dal leader allegedly attacked him with a pistol in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on Thursday night.

The injured man, Md Sohan, 35, received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police detained four people in connection with the incident, including expelled Jubo Dal leader Ferdous Ahmed Saimon.

Sohan said Ferdous and several associates blocked his way in an alley north of Rupayan Tower in Banglamotor around Thursday night.

During an argument, Ferdous allegedly hit Sohan on the head with the butt of a pistol, leaving him bleeding.

Ferdous then allegedly fired two blank shots to create panic, Sohan said.

Hearing the gunshots, local residents came forward, prompting Ferdous and his associates to enter a nearby building. Residents gathered outside the building and protested the incident.

A video of the protest has circulated on social media. In the video, locals allege that Ferdous has long been extorting money in the area and attacking people who refuse to pay.

Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Md Ibne Mizan said Ferdous Ahmed and two of his associates were detained and taken to Tejgaon Industrial Area police station around midnight.

Police said Sohan was beaten and struck on the head during an argument. Locals then surrounded Saimon and his associates.

Police went to the scene after being informed and brought the situation under control. Additional police were later deployed, and the situation returned to normal during the night.
