Three members of a family, who sank in the Meghna river after a trawler capsized in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Thursday due to inclement weather, were found dead on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Samina, 17, Sajib, 24 and Samin, 5—three siblings who went missing at the time of the accident with their father Helal Uddin, who remains missing.
The divers from local Fire Service recovered the bodies from in front of Al Mostafa Factory in Boidderbazar area of the upazila between 2:55am and 8:10am, said Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service.
“Search operations are underway to rescue the remaining missing person,” he said.
Mohammad Zahed Chowdhury, station master of Sonargaon Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said the trawler sank at around 1:30pm on Thursday.
On information, the diver conducted a rescue operation around 4:50pm and continued until 3am.
The operation resumed at 7am on the following day, he said.
Underwater cameras were used in the search, while divers also conducted searches using various methods, he added.
Shah Kamal, inspector and in-charge of the Boidderbazar Naval Police Outpost, said the trawler carrying 14 passengers with two cows and a goat from Homna upazila in Cumilla district sank in the Meghna River during storm on Thursday.
All of them were returning from the wedding of Sajia Akter and Shishir in Haria area in Boidderbazar of Sonargaon upazila.
Later, a woman identified as Rashida was found dead during the trawler capsize while four people including Helal and his three children remained missing.
