A construction worker was killed after being run over by a speeding car in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone of the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan Mim, 24.
The car hit Mehedi around 5:00pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
On receiving information, police rushed to the scene and recovered the body, said Inspector (Investigation) of Gulshan Police Station Ismail Hossain Khan.
The body was later sent to Kurmitola General Hospital for an autopsy, he said, adding that they detained a teenage boy in connection with the accident.
Citing locals, the police official said the boy was driving the car when it struck Mehedi.
The boy, however, denied the allegation, saying the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
