Six new ministers join Tarique-led cabinet; portfolios pending

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as Bangladesh’s 23rd president at 7:30pm

Four new ministers and two state ministers joined Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s cabinet on Friday evening, with their portfolios yet to be announced.

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir administered their oaths at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban.

The new ministers are BNP Standing Committee member and Narsingdi-2 MP Dr Abdul Moin Khan, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman and Bhola-1 MP Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, Bandarban MP Saching Prue Jerry and Rashiduzzaman Millat.

Besides, Gaibandha-4 MP Mohammad Shamim Kaisar Lincoln took oath as a state minister, while Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kabir joined the cabinet as a technocrat.

Earlier, at 7:30pm, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the country’s 23rd president at Bangabhaban.

Acting Speaker of the National Parliament Kaysar Kamal administered the oath.

The cabinet members’ oath-taking ceremony followed immediately after the president’s swearing-in.
