A total of 690,608 students failed this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, accounting for 37.75% of all candidates.
A total of 1,829,485 students sat for the examinations, of whom 1,138,877 passed, according to the results published on Monday.
The overall pass rate stood at 62.25%, down from 68.45% in 2025, a decline of 6.20 percentage points.
Girls significantly outperformed boys in the pass rate. While 66.68% of female candidates passed, the rate among male candidates was 57.86%, giving girls an 8.82 percentage-point lead.
Of the total candidates, 917,694 were boys and 911,791 were girls. Despite 5,903 more boys appearing for the examinations, 6,07,939 girls passed, compared to 5,30,938 boys — a difference of 77,001.
Girls also led in GPA-5 results, with 63,896 girls securing the top grade compared to 52,780 boys, a difference of 11,116.
The gender gap was evident across all three groups under the nine general education boards.
In science, the pass rate was 83.70% among girls, compared to 77.39% among boys. In humanities, 54.38% of girls passed, compared to 41.14% of boys. In business studies, the rates were 69.92% for girls and 59.98% for boys.
The widest gap was recorded in humanities, where the female pass rate was 13.24 percentage points higher than the male rate.
The number of GPA-5 achievers also fell this year, from 139,032 in 2025 to 116,676, a decrease of 22,356.
Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon formally inaugurated the publication of the results at the Education Ministry’s conference room at 10am on Monday. The chairmen of all education boards handed over the results to the minister at the event.
