Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Sunday ordered the immediate transfer of Chandpur Civil Surgeon Dr Nure Alam Din over allegations of negligence in performing his duties.
The minister issued the order during a surprise visit to Haimchar Upazila Health Complex. He expressed dissatisfaction after witnessing mismanagement at the hospital and issued the order.
Later, the minister visited Chandpur Government General Hospital and talked to local journalists.
He said initiatives would be taken to reduce the birth rate through a comprehensive campaign to be launched at the end of September, as the incumbent government is working to ensure the well-being and good health of the people.
“We will ensure the people’s good health as per our commitment. We have already started doing whatever is necessary for this. We pledge to develop the country and take the health sector forward. Various family planning supplies will be made easily available to people through the campaign,” he said.
Sakhawat said various types of equipment in the health sector had been left unused and allowed to deteriorate during the previous government’s tenure. Besides, various forms of mismanagement had developed in different hospitals, he added.
Sk Farid Ahmed MP, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahmed Ziaur Rahman, hospital Superintendent Dr Mahbubur Rahman, and officials and physicians of the Sadar Hospital were present at the time.
During the visit to Haimchar Upazila Health Complex, Sk Farid Ahmed MP, District Parishad Administrator and District BNP General Secretary Advocate Salim Ullah Selim, Haimchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amit Ray, and Haimchar Upazila Health Officer Dr Mahmudunnabi Masum were present.
