Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged professionals, including teachers and doctors, to ensure that their political activities do not interfere with their professional responsibilities.
“Many have raised questions about how much political practice professionals such as teachers and doctors should engage in. Personally, I believe professionals in all democratic countries have their own political ideologies. However, they must be careful that engaging in politics does not disrupt their professional duties,” he said.
The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a doctors’ rally marking the 37th founding anniversary of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the LD Hall of the national parliament on Saturday afternoon.
He also called on professionals to maintain their standards beyond traditional politics.
Earlier, Tarique inaugurated the event by planting a neem sapling on the national parliament premises and releasing pigeons as a symbol of peace. His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, was present at the time.
The prime minister said the government had taken significant steps to improve the healthcare system.
He said a decision had already been made to recruit 100,000 new healthcare workers and expressed hope that doctors would act responsibly in ensuring they receive proper training.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr Zubaida Rahman, DAB President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid and DAB Secretary General Prof Dr Md Zahirul Islam Shakil, among others, were present.
