Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the overall law and order situation in the country is fully under control and that law enforcement agencies are on the highest alert to prevent any kind of subversive activities.

He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon while responding to various questions from journalists at a press briefing on contemporary issues held at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the secretariat.

The minister said: "Intelligence agencies and law enforcement forces are always active to suppress extremism and maintain internal security."

Responding to a question from journalists about strengthening police security, the minister said that it is a normal practice of the police. "Officers are regularly instructed to ensure that no one remains unattended during patrols or while on duty. There is no reason to interpret it otherwise."

Stating that banned political parties have no scope to carry out any subversive activities, Salahuddin said: "Apart from occasionally peeping through social media from abroad, they have no capacity to make any impact on the ground."

He added: "Appropriate action will be taken after properly investigating the recent incidents involving the NCP."
