The government has appointed eminent academic and researcher Prof Dr Mahbub Ullah as a National Professor for a five-year term.
The appointment was confirmed by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education through a notification issued on Monday.
Under the Bangladesh National Professor Policy-2023, Prof Mahbub Ullah will serve as a National Professor for five years from the date of his joining.
During his tenure, he will receive the salary and other benefits equivalent to Grade 1 of the National Pay Scale 2015. However, he will not be permitted to hold any other salaried position while serving in the role.
The notification also stipulates that he will not be considered a government official by virtue of his appointment. He may pursue research through any research organisation or educational institution of his choice, provided that he keeps the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the University Grants Commission (UGC) informed of his research activities.
He is also required to submit an annual progress report on his work to the institution with which he is affiliated. The institution will subsequently forward the report to the UGC and the Ministry of Education.
The gazette notification, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Nasima Khandaker, said the appointment was made by order of the President.
