Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said the taxpayers' money is spent solely for the welfare of the people as it is one of the government's key commitments, and the government is fulfilling that commitment through the proper and transparent use of public funds.
"The government has been working relentlessly to ensure the proper and transparent use of public funds so that the benefits of development reach people in every corner of the country," the minister said.
He made the remarks while addressing a function as the chief guest at the Magura District Auditorium on Sunday. At the program, organized by the Magura Zila Parishad, bicycles were distributed among students, sewing machines among rural women and saplings among beneficiaries, an official release said on Sunday.
“In the past, a significant portion of the funds allocated for public welfare remained unspent in practice due to corruption and irregularities, existing only on paper. Present government has broken away from that culture by ensuring accountability. The government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. Investigations are underway into funds allegedly misappropriated in the name of development projects in the past, while legal action is being taken against those responsible,” the law minister added.
Md Asaduzzaman further said the government has been working consistently to fulfil its election pledges. It has already taken initiatives to implement the Family Card, Agriculture Card and Imam Card programs.
He said all eligible families across the country would gradually be brought under the Family Card program, through which financial assistance would be provided to women. At the same time, various support programs are also being implemented for farmers.
The function was chaired by Magura Zila Parishad Administrator Ali Ahmed. Magura Sadar lawmaker Md Monowar Hosen, Deputy Commissioner Motakabbir Ahmed and others also addressed the program.
A total of 182 beneficiaries received assistance under the program.
Earlier, the law minister addressed a program organized by the Magura District Bar Association as the chief guest.
