The body of Fire Service and Civil Defence diver Md Sadik, who went missing after falling into a river while on duty, was recovered on Thursday evening following an hours-long search.
His body was recovered at 7:03pm, Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Service Media Cell Talha Bin Jasim said.
According to the Fire Service, the incident occurred at around 11:20am while Sadik was carrying out maintenance work on a speedboat at the Narayanganj River Fire Station.
He accidentally fell into the river, prompting an immediate joint rescue operation involving divers from the Fire Service, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
After nearly eight hours of search efforts, diver Meraj Ali of the Aricha Land River Fire Station in Manikganj, attached to the Tongi Fire Station, recovered Sadik's body at 7:03pm.
Born on October 10, 2001, in Kumrakandi village of Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district, Sadik was the son of Ashraf Sheikh and Lili Begum. He was married.
Sadik joined the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence on October 24, 2021, and had been serving as a diver at the Narayanganj River Fire Station. He was awarded a state medal in recognition of his bravery, dedication and professionalism in carrying out rescue operations.
