Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Saturday warned against what he described as threats from both "fascist forces" and "extremists," calling on the public to remain vigilant to protect the spirit and principles of the July Charter.

Addressing the July National Conference at the China Friendship International Conference Center in the capital, he said, "On one side, fascist forces are attempting to undermine the country's sovereignty. On the other, extremists have become blinded by their pursuit of power. I urge you to remain alert against both."

The minister said the vision set out by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman provides the roadmap for fulfilling the aspirations of July, adding that the government remains firmly committed to ensuring justice for every killing committed during the July incidents.

He said the prime minister has consistently reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing every provision of the July Charter "to the letter."

Referring to calls for a referendum, Asaduzzaman alleged that a section of people was attempting to create confusion over the July Charter by advancing demands that were never part of the document.

"When we made it clear that the referendum proposal was not included in the July Charter, they sought to pursue other means," he said.

Urging people to stay united behind the July Charter, the law minister called on them to remain "as vigilant as sentinels" against any attempt to distort the spirit of July or mislead the public.

"The guidance of Tarique Rahman at the forefront, together with the path shown by the prime minister, is the path of July," he said.
