The burial arrangements and public tribute programmes for eminent artist and pioneer of Bangladeshi puppet theatre Mustafa Monwar have been finalised, his son Sadat Monwar confirmed.
According to the family's decision, Mustafa Monwar’s body will be placed at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday to allow people from all walks of life to pay their final respects. He will later be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
Earlier on Monday, following the ritual washing of the body at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi, Monwar’s body was taken to his residence at around noon. It will remain there until the afternoon, allowing family members, relatives and well-wishers to offer their respects. The body will then be kept at a hospital mortuary overnight.
On Tuesday, Mustafa Monwar’s body will first be taken to the premises of Bangladesh Television (BTV) at 9:00am, where his first namaz-e-janaza will be held. It will then be brought to the Central Shaheed Minar between 10:30am and 11:00am and remain there until 12:30pm for public homage.
Afterwards, the body will be taken to the Central Mosque of the University of Dhaka, where a second janaza will be offered.
Following the prayer, it will be taken to the Faculty of Fine Arts for about half an hour, allowing colleagues, students and admirers to pay their last respects at the institution where he spent a significant part of his professional life.
Upon completion of the formalities at the Faculty of Fine Arts, the body will be taken to Banani Graveyard for burial, where the distinguished cultural icon will be laid to rest.
The renowned Bangladeshi painter passed away on Monday, while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in Dhaka. He was 91.
His niece, actor Nima Rahman, confirmed the matter to the media.
