Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday met Malaysia’s King Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar following his official engagements with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the meeting took place at the royal palace after a luncheon hosted by the Malaysian prime minister in honor of his Bangladeshi counterpart.
During the meeting, the prime minister and the king exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries.
Malaysia’s Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah was also present at the meeting.
Officials said discussions during the high-level engagements covered various aspects of Bangladesh-Malaysia relations, as well as regional and international issues of shared interest.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to taking bilateral ties to new heights through closer cooperation in different sectors.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya and attended the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries.
Tarique Rahman arrived in Malaysia on Sunday on a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart.
