A Comilla court on Tuesday sent expelled Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Jisan Mia Pradhan to jail in a case filed over the alleged rape of a woman and forced abortion, after he was discharged from Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-3 of Judge Tayeb Uddin Ahmed under tight security by district police and the Detective Branch (DB) at around 5:30pm. After hearing, the court ordered that he be sent to jail. He was seen wearing a helmet and a police vest while being produced before the court. Following the order, police swiftly escorted him to a prison van and took him to jail in the evening.
Earlier in the day, hospital authorities discharged him after four days of treatment. A medical board examined his condition and declared him physically fit. Based on the board’s report, the hospital issued his discharge around noon.
Acting Director of Comilla Medical College Hospital Mohammad Shahjahan said, “Members of the medical board examined his condition and found him physically fit. As he was medically stable, we issued his discharge.”
Jisan was arrested in a case filed over the alleged rape of a widow in Daudkandi and the subsequent termination of her pregnancy. Although he was taken into custody late Friday night, he had remained under hospital treatment, citing illness. However, medical tests and doctors’ observations reportedly confirmed that he was fully fit throughout the period.
