2,260 were registered as new arrivals last month

Update : 15 Jun 2026, 05:10 PM

The number of newly arrived registered Rohingya in Bangladesh stood at 152,029 from December 2024 to May 31 this year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

Of them, 2,260 were registered as new arrivals last month. The total stood at 149,769 in March.

UNHCR said 1,197,411 Rohingya have been identified in the camps.

The agency said thousands of people have been killed since 2024 due to targeted violence and persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, forcing Rohingya to seek safety in Bangladesh.

As of May 31, UNHCR had registered 1,045,382 Rohingya who were displaced from Myanmar since 1990 and 2017.

Of them, 39,737 came after 1990 and 1,005,645 arrived after 2017.

The report said new refugees have continued to seek safety in Bangladesh since 2024 because of escalating conflict in Rakhine State. As a result, a new wave of arrivals was identified in the camps at the end of 2024, and biometric identification is underway.

According to the report, 78% of the refugees are women and children, while 12% are people with disabilities, single parents, people with serious medical conditions, unaccompanied minors, at-risk elderly people and others in need of legal and physical protection.
