Police on Saturday afternoon arrested a man in connection with the shooting of the listed top criminal Yasin Khan Palash, also known as Kaila Palash, in the Rampura TV Center area of Hatirjheel in Dhaka.

The arrestee has been identified as Md Imam Hossain.

Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman confirmed the arrest, saying Imam was arrested during an operation in the Badda area of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Police allege that after Kaila Palash was shot, Imam helped the shooter escape the scene on a motorcycle. He was later produced before a court, which granted a six-day remand following a police request.

Investigators said CCTV footage from the scene helped identify Imam’s involvement in assisting the shooter’s escape.

Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Ibn Mizan, said Imam was the motorcycle driver who helped the shooter flee after the attack. The motorcycle used in the incident has also been seized.

Earlier on Friday, Kaila Palash was shot near his residence in the Rampura TV Center area after Friday prayers. He was taken in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

According to police records, Kaila Palash is a convicted accused in the 2002 murder case of Jubo Dal leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan in Rampura. Although a trial court sentenced him to death, the High Court later commuted the sentence to life imprisonment.

Investigators said he was released on bail about a month before the shooting incident. Police also confirmed that operations are ongoing to identify and arrest others involved in the attack.
