The government has proposed an allocation of Tk 291 crore for the Supreme Court in the 2026–27 fiscal year, up from Tk 270 crore in the revised budget of FY2025–26, according to the budget proposal.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the national budget on Thursday in the National Parliament during his budget speech.

Prior to the budget presentation, the proposed financial plan was approved at a cabinet meeting held at the Parliament Bhaban, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

This marks the first budget of the BNP-led government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The proposed national budget for FY2026–27 stands at Tk 9,38,000 crore, the largest in the country’s history. It has been framed under the theme “Economic Democratization and Decentralization: Bangladesh on the Path to a Trillion-Dollar Economy.”

The budget prioritizes inflation control, accelerated economic growth, job creation, and increased investment. The government has set a target of reducing inflation to 7.5 percent.

To support low-income and vulnerable populations, social safety net coverage has been expanded, with new initiatives including family cards and farmer cards introduced in the proposed plan.

The finance minister also outlined reforms in tax and customs administration aimed at facilitating business and trade, alongside sector-wise allocations, proposed salary structure reforms for government employees, and the broader macroeconomic framework.
